Research & Debate
Club Description
Informed debate is the keystone of a healthy democratic society, as it guides public opinion, transforms policies, casts light on injustice, and always strives for “a more perfect Union.” However, we live in an era of dis/misinformation, conspiracy, and echo chambers to which schools must respond with learning opportunities that form powerful and persuasive speakers and writers who can think critically, explore all sides of an issue, formulate evidence-based positions, and craft plans of action that challenge the status quo. Therefore, throughout your year in Research & Debate, we will take deep dives into this year’s national debate topics. In this process, you will learn the foundation for argumentation and how to deconstruct topics, research multiple perspectives, construct arguments, defend positions, choose evidence, document sources, rebut claims, and propose solutions.
